As a new century dawns and we reflect on the teachers and teachings that most influenced the last hundred years, Sri Ramana Maharshi stands out as one of the greatest seers of our time. Nearly fifty years after he shed his mortal frame, ever more seekers the world over are earnestly turning to the Maharshi and his teachings.
From 1935 to 1950, a number of visitors to Sri Ramanasramam shot films of the Maharshi and his environs. Taken mostly by his devotees, these films give us a remarkable opportunity to view a fully-enlightened sage who, in the 20th century, lived liked an ancient rishi of yore.
In 1990, the complete collection of archival films were brought to the U.S.A. for restoration, preservation and editing. Two of these films were professionally produced as newsreels with a soundtrack by the Indian Information Bureau and shown throughout India in cinema houses.
This 65 minute DVD is a visual documentary of a man made perfect by virtue of a unique destiny. Spiritual freedom, eternal peace and joy can be realised by those devoted seekers whose destinies are linked to the Sage of Arunachala, Sri Ramana Maharshi.

This DVD retraces Ramana Maharshi's life - it presents his birth place, the school which he attended and the house in which his life was transformed in a few short, intense moments. It contains images of his voyage to the sacred Arunachala Hill at the age of 16, and his life afterwards in Tiruvannamalai.

The Eternal Light chronicles in detail the life of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi from His birth in 1879 to His mahasamadhi In April 1950. It includes many rare photographs which have never been shown before of Ramana Maharshi, as well as photos of the ashram in the early days. The majority of the film footage was shot in 2003 in digital format, and also included is re-processed high-quality film footage of Bhagavan from the Archival Films. No effort has been spared in producing this DVD in the highest quality possible. Both devotees and those for whom this is the first introduction to Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi will not be disappointed by this simple but moving story of one of the greatest sages mankind has ever known.

Anandamayi Ma was reputed for her irresistible attraction of her ever radiant, blissful personality, for her boundless compassion and her outstanding universality.       Satsang with Papaji - March 26th, 1993

This particular recording of satsang with Papaji gives the opportunity to see the variety of people who approached him and to hear the diversity of questions being asked. Papaji always answered questions in accordance with the seeker's needs.

"When we go from the waking state to the sleep state, we lose everything - all our relationships with people will leave. When we enter the sleep state we lose everything and during this moment we have no fear. But we are afraid of entering into emptiness, because we have never heard about it, nor have we experienced it. Sleep, we've experienced and we're not afraid of it. We love to sleep, to enter the state of conceptlessness. Emptiness is the same, there is no difference. We cannot experience it because we are already in it. You cannot have an experience of what your true nature is. Therefore, don't think that you have to achieve something through practise at some later time. You have to get rid of this concept. By doing something at a later date, you will enter, or receive or achieve the same thing which you are now. So, why not do it at this very moment? What will be the difference? This moment is available to you right now! Look into this moment, look into this instant of time. Look into it just now and see how you feel. You cannot speak of this instant."

Interview for Finnish TV Series

This is a very detailed interview of the life and teaching of Papaji. The first question is about Papaji first blissful experience at the age of eight. Papaji tells this story in depth. He then talks of the period in his life when he repeated the God's name thousands of times and also the time when he visited various ashrams asking the swamis, "Have you seen God? And if you have, can you show Him to me?" He then talks about his first meeting with his master, Ramana Maharshi, the period when he lived and worked in Madras, and of the period of life after leaving the Maharshi.

"Anything that you get, you will lose. So you have to be as you always are, not touching anything which is not eternal. If you don't touch them, every minute you will see that you have free. Freedom cannot be won by any practice and does not depend on what you have done. You have not to do anything. Simply stay quiet and don't give rise to any thought whatsoever. You are not to think, just for one second, and then see what happens."

      Satsang with Papaji - October 24th, 1994

Papaji begins by reading out several letters. Answering a question about the search for freedom, he says, "There is no way to freedom. Way means that you have to start from somewhere and arrive somewhere. There should be some distance from your location, then you need a way. You do not have to go anywhere else. This creation of distance is the deception of the mind, so forget about any way or any freedom also. Stay as you are wherever you are. If you do, instantly you will know that you are already that what you wanted. There is no search also. When you have not lost anything, then there is no meaning to search any object. Simply keep quiet and then you will see that you achieve everything. Everything comes to you. If you don't ask for anything, everything is offered to you. Then you will know who you really are."
Ganeshan, from Ramanasramam in southern India, a relative of Ramana Maharshi, is invited to tell some stories about the Maharshi. He explains that Ramana would tell all those you came to him, "Your nature is happiness". He also speaks of the Maharshi's love for animals and trees.

      Satsang with Papaji - February 13th, 1995

Papaji answers several questions, including one question concerning 'obstacles on the the spiritual path'. Answering another question, Papaji replies, "You have to forget everything - that is the highest truth. If you do not forget everything, that means that you create duality, and there cannot be two realities. Either you are real or the other thing is real, but the other thing is due to your reality. Let there be God, but it is you who speaks about God, and if you were not there, there would be no God. When you sleep, you don't have any relation, any God, only your own happiness and bliss. There is not even your own body - there's no relation, everything disappears. This is the highest experience. Forgetting and remembering belongs to the mind. So, how to forget? Don't give rise to a thought that 'I am so and so'."
The satsang ends with several songs by devotees.

      Satsang with Papaji - April 22nd, 1995

Papaji starts by answering a question from a devotee concerning the ego. He then continues to answer other questions. "Self-realisation takes a second, but 'this' second needs a great effort to remove all other thoughts from your mind. All the other 'seconds', 'minutes', 'hours', remove them all from the mind, and only allow this second to stay with you. In this second, stand on your toes, close your fist and shout, 'I have to be free in this second'. This second is very rare, to have an extreme desire, extreme activity, extreme strength, so that even the Gods will come and bow before you. That has to be your decision. With a frail body you can not do it. There must be a very strong body, a very strong mind, a very strong intention. Then 'this' second will work."
Then some devotees sing songs and play music for Papaji, much to his delight. Finally, he plays an audio tape of traditional Katak dance music for everyone to listen to.

      Satsang with Interview by Israeli Journalist - December 29th, 1995

Papaji begins the satsang by reading from a book about Swami Rama Tirtha, his uncle. Then he reads out letters from devotees and answers some of them. "Silence is in your heart, you cannot get it anywhere else. How do you arrive there? By not making any use of your mind or holding on to any object outside of your heart. Don't think, only keep quiet. In just one second you can get peace, in a half second, even half of the half second is quite enough to give you wisdom, light and happiness. Don't allow any thought to interfere. But nobody spends even a quarter of a second on himself."
Responding to a question from the journalist concerning working and yet living a spiritual life, Papaji replies, "Your work has got nothing to do with your peace of mind. Where does the strength to work come from? Go back now and see what happens, and that is the source of all work. So if you know this, then you are not going to lose it. But you have to do it. You do not have to think, simply go back and see what is the source of thought and activity."
Kabir says, "Everyone who is born, he cries, and his parents are happy, the neighbours are happy, the relatives are happy and they come to congratulate the parents. Others are happy, but the child is crying. While going back, when you are dying, now let the others cry and you go happily."
